The Remember Billie-Jo Foundation is a new charity set up in memory of a very brave little girl, Billie-Jo Elizabeth Woods-Scott who sadly lost her fight for life on 11th April 2009
Most of her short journey in life was spent in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and as a direct result of this, the Charity has been formed in her name.
This foundation is dear to the hearts of many of us - the sole aim of the charity is to purchase equipment and services for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. The Charity is a non profit organisation, and is the ONLY charity set up for the Unit, unlike other wards within the hospital.
This is the only ICU unit for critically ill children throughout the whole of Northern Ireland. There are currently only 8 beds to service the entire province . The amazing staff at the PICU are stretched to capacity, offering help to the little children who really, really do need it. Working there is a not just a job, it is a vocation, and all of these people deserve to have our help and support. Despite being under so much stress, they always have a smile for you, and on hand to support the parents.
Paula Woods (Billie-Jo’s mummy) and co- founder of The Remember Billie-Jo Foundation says, “When i lost my daughter i vowed that i would keep her name alive. She was a miracle and an inspiration to all of us, and i am so proud to have called her my wee daughter. Her name lives on in her Charity now”.
We need all the support we can get, as one never knows when they need the PICU for their child. I never thought i would need it for mine!
The Foundation is located in Randalstown and are currently seeking volunteers to assist with fund raising ideas and events. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to help or provide support please contact us at the shop, or email for further details.
There are loads of fund raising events already booked for the calendar, so its an exciting year ahead.
